MEET CHERYL

  I didn’t set out to become a bookkeeper. In fact, my story starts in the suburbs of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where I grew up with no idea that life would eventually take me over a thousand miles south.

Not long after graduating high school, I met Jeff, who soon became my husband. Shortly thereafter, we made the leap to Florida - that’s where everything really began. I started working alongside Jeff and his parents in their family-owned publishing business, which served independent garden centers across the country.

What started as a single business soon turned into four. Together, Jeff and I found ourselves running a publishing company, two trade shows, and an industry association — all focused on helping independent garden retailers thrive. It was a fast-paced, hands-on world, and somewhere along the way, I found myself gravitating toward the financial side of things. That’s where my journey into bookkeeping really began.

Then came COVID.

Like many small businesses, ours was hit hard. The trade shows — our largest ventures — had to shut down, and eventually, we made the heartbreaking decision to close all of our operations. After years of building and growing, it was tough to let go. I took a year off to pause, refresh, reflect, and figure out what was next.

That next chapter came in the form of an unexpected opportunity: a newly created role with our CPA’s firm, offering bookkeeping services to their clients. It was a chance to take everything I’d learned and apply it in a new way — and I loved it. After three fulfilling years there, I felt a pull to go out on my own. That’s when My Bookkeeping Solution was born.

Today, I get to bring a wide range of experience to the table — not just in bookkeeping, but in understanding the real-world challenges that small business owners face every day. When you work with me, you're not just getting someone to handle the numbers. You’re getting a partner who understands what it means to build something from the ground up — and who’s here to help you keep it growing.

There’s something incredibly rewarding about helping fellow business owners feel more confident and in control of their finances. I genuinely love what I do — not just because I enjoy the work itself, but because I get to play a small part in someone else’s success story. Seeing a client breathe easier, plan better, or hit that next milestone — that’s what makes it all worth it.

 When I’m not helping clients stay on top of their finances, you’ll probably find me unwinding in my butterfly garden or spending time with my little crew of animals — three dogs, ten cats, and some very entertaining rabbits who definitely keep things interesting. It’s the perfect balance to the structure and focus of bookkeeping, and it reminds me daily to slow down and enjoy the simple joys. 

 It’s that same sense of calm, clarity, and balance that I strive to bring to every client relationship. Because when your finances feel organized and under control, it frees you up to focus on what you love — and to enjoy the business you’ve worked so hard to build.
